Sage -One of our favorites groups contains over 900 species plus many hybrids. Many of our selections are from the subtropical group which are generally fast growing perennials with showy flower spikes. Also listed are many tough California natives.
Teucrium
Germander -A group of mostly Mediterranean natives known for their toughness, withstanding heat, drought, and poor soils. Quite varied, teucriums are grown for their attractive forms and textures. Use in rock gardens, as a hedge, or in knot gardens. They often have pleasantly pungent foliage when the leaves are crushed.
Thunbergia
Tender tropical perennials, mainly grown for their exotic, brilliantly colored trumpet-shaped flowers. Most bloom all warm season. Can be used in containers in colder zones.
Tibouchina
Glory Bush -Tender shrubs mostly from tropical South America, commonly known as the Princess Flower, with showy blooms over a long season. Leaves are hairy and deeply veined with a tropical appearance, while the flowers have brilliantly vivid purple petals and equally colorful stamens. These make good container plants, preferring ample feeding and moderate to regular water. Outstanding plant in light shade near the coast.
