Germander -A group of mostly Mediterranean natives known for their toughness, withstanding heat, drought, and poor soils. Quite varied, teucriums are grown for their attractive forms and textures. Use in rock gardens, as a hedge, or in knot gardens. They often have pleasantly pungent foliage when the leaves are crushed.
Thunbergia
Tender tropical perennials, mainly grown for their exotic, brilliantly colored trumpet-shaped flowers. Most bloom all warm season. Can be used in containers in colder zones.
Verbena
Vervain -This genus originates from the Americas - a large group containing annuals and shrubs, but most popular horticultural Verbenas are low-growing and spreading perennials. Flowers bloom in clustered heads. They thrive in full sun and heat. Low maintenance and drought tolerant, they make good fillers and groundcovers in well drained soils.
Westringia
Rounded to upright shrubs native of Australia, often growing up to 4 feet high,with an equal or greater spread. These are rugged, fine textured plants, tolerating heat, drought, and high winds. Flowers are two-lipped and can look rather unique. Useful as informal screens or a topiary subject but can also be incorporated well into the landscape for Mediterranean climate gardens.
